Team Oceanus is one of the Entertainment Technology Center’s developments of two interactive crowd experiences for the 2012 World Expo in Yeosu Korea. All guests entering the 2012 expo pass through the Expo Digital Gallery, walking under a massive LED ceiling display above them. Hundreds of guests at a time interact with the ETC’s Magic Tiles and EDG Twitter experiences. Magic Tiles is an augmented reality experience that uses a network camera to virtually transport people onto the melting sea ice of the arctic and EDG Twitter is an animated visualization of a Twitter feed that breathes life into tweets with the help of colorful ocean life. The two worlds have been constructed in Unity to be display at the Expo Digital Gallery. The theme of the 2012 expo is “The Living Ocean and Coast.” Exhibitions at the expo focus on ocean ecosystems and the relationship between humanity and the sea. The interactions express these themes while creating a fun and immersive experience for the audience [1]. The user summary is very broad, it includes all guests who pass under the EDG LED ceiling display. (All guests to the 2012 World Expo in Yeosu Korea.) This includes gamers, non-gamers, and people of all ages.
